Mucha Has Great Showing In 2 Tennis Tourneys At Pinewoods

Thirteen year old Alexis Mucha from Harwinton finished in 2nd Place and 3rd Place in 2 different Tournaments on the same weekend in the USTA Fall Doubles Championships held at Pinewoods on December 1 and 2, 2018. In the Girl’s 16 & Under Doubles Division, Mucha, who trains with Pinewoods Junior Tennis Director Shawn Young, teamed with West Hartford’s Stella Dodd and won all 3 of their matches and finished in 2nd Place. Together they beat Wilton’s Anna Bettegowda and Southwick, MA’s Katelyn Horky 7-5, Norwalk’s Cecilia Buono and New Canaan’s Elizabet Sieghart 6-3 and Brookfield’s Gabriella Mazzeo and Southbury’s Milana Montini 6-2. In the Girl’s 14 & Under Doubles Division, Mucha teamed with South Windsor’s Kristin Chin and won 2 out of 3 matches and finished in 3rd Place. Together they teamed to beat Westport’s Alisyn and Audrey Kercher 6-3 and Orange’s Annika Minotti and Abigail Murphy 7-6(7-5) before falling to the champions New Canaan’s Lexi McCall and Farmington’s Sophia Zhang 7-5. Mucha Wins Pinewoods Tennis Tourney

Harwinton’s Alexis Mucha was a big winner at the USTA Junior Championships Tennis Tournament held at Pinewoods November 24 and 25, 2018. Mucha, who is only 13 and trains with Pinewoods Junior Tennis Director Shawn Young, won the Girl’s 18 & Under Singles Division with victories over West Hartford’s Katelyn Seidman 6-4,6-3 and West Haven’s Elena Miko by withdrawal in the Round Robin Competition. The Harwinton Native won the Girl’s 14 & Under Singles Division of the Tourney winning all 3 of her matches in the Round Robin Format. Alexis defeated Fairfield’s McKenna Carroll 8-1, Fairfield’s Julia Pida 8-1 and Valatie, N.Y.’s Elise Brennan by Withdrawal. Alexis trains at Pinewoods with Tennis Professional Herman Batuyev. Alexis Mucha Reaches Final Of Pinewoods Tourney

Harwinton’s Alexis Mucha reached the final of the 12 & Under Level 6 (A High Level) Girl’s Singles Division of  the USTA Tennis Tournament held at Pinewoods November 11 and 12, 2017. The 12 year old beat Waban, MA’s Anjali Reddy in the quarterfinals 6-0,6-1 and then defeated Stamford, CT’s Emily Sherman in a tight one in the semifinals 6-3,7-6(7-2). In the finals she came close in the first set before falling to Waterford, CT’s Sarah Hage 7-5,6-0. Cofer: The #1 Ranked 4.5 Tennis Player In New England for 2016

After many tries, Bob Cofer has finally reached the top of his division in the U.S. Tennis Association’s New England Rankings. Cofer, owner and general manager of Pinewoods, ends the 2016 season ranked #1 in the 4.5 Singles Division. Despite often facing players half his age, Cofer finished 135 points ahead of his closest competitor in the year-end rankings. During the year, Cofer won five tournaments and posted a 15-4 match record. One of his best wins came against Michael Lombardi in the finals of the New Milford Open in September. “The past two years, I went into the last tournament ranked #1 only to lose in that tourney and drop to #2”, he said. “I began wondering if I was ever going to finish #1. I guess perseverance paid off”.

Back to Basics Teaches Adults Tennis in Torrington

Honigmann, Shanks Win Tennis Tourneys At Pinewoods

Pinewoods Junior Tennis Players Alexander Honigmann and Charlie Shanks, both from Litchfield, were big winners at recent Tennis Tournaments at Pinewoods. Honigmann, an 8th Grader at Litchfield Middle School, won the Girl’s 14 & Under Singles Division in the Winter USTA Championships held on March 15 & 16. Lexi won all 3 of her Round Robin Matches, 6-1 over Washington’s Louise Van Tartwijk, 6-4 over Hamden’s Sangah Lee and 6-0 over Glastonbury’s Emily Jacy. Shanks won the Boy’s 12 & Under Singles Division in the Winter USTA Championships held on March 8th. He also won all 3 of his Round Robin Matches, 8-0 over Weatogue’s Adam Na, 8-0 over Easton’s Robert Tremont and 8-1 over Longmeadow, MA’s James Foster. Cofer Wins 2 Tournaments In the Space Of A Couple Days

Litchfield’s Sabrina Cofer had quite a week recently as she won 2 Tennis Tournaments in the space of a few days. Her biggest win came in the August 3rd USTA CT. Championships held at Pinewoods. In the finals of the Girl’s 18 & Under Division, the Litchfield High School Junior upended North Haven’s Emily Migliorni 7-5,6-4. Migliorni went deep into the CT. High School State Tourney held at Yale in June. Then, 3 days later , Cofer, who trains at Pinewoods, won another Tourney as she was victorious in the USTA CT. Championships held August 6th at Pinewoods. In the semifinals of the Girl’s 18 & Under she beat Hamden’s Vidhya Maran 6-0,6-4 and then in the finals she defeated West Simsbury’s Emma Buckle 6-2,6-0. Cofer: Berkshire League Tourney Finalist

Pinewoods Junior Tennis Player Sabrina Cofer had a Tennis Tournament to remember in the recent Berkshire Tourney held at the Salisbury School and Wamogo High School on May 18th and 20th. The Litchfield High School #1 Singles Player won 4 matches to get to the finals of the 34 player draw and almost pulled off a big upset in the finals. Cofer, a Sophomore, won her first 3 matches 8-1, 8-3 and 8-0 over players from Thomaston, Nonnawaug and Thomaston again. In the semifinals, she beat Nonnawaug’s #2 player Hayley Strasburger (a former Berkshire League Tournament Champion) 8-3 .  Against the #1 Seed and Defending Champion Emma Pezzullo in the finals, Cofer came close to pulling a major upset as she lost 8-6. Cofer had lost to Pezzullo during the regular season 8-1 and 8-0. By reaching the finals of the Tourney, Cofer made the Berkshire League All-Star Team for the first time.

Litchfield’s Sabrina Cofer won the Girl’s 18 & Under Singles Division of the USTA CT. Junior Championships Tennis Tournament at Pinewoods January 5th. The sophomore from Litchfield defeated Belchertown, MA’s Meghan Bernard 6-1,6-3 in the semifinals and then bested North Haven’s Emily Milgiorini in the finals 6-3,6-3.
