Thirteen-year-old Sebastian Mucha of Harwinton had a tournament to remember as he won the Boy’s 14 and Under Singles Division in the USTA Junior Tennis Tournament held at Pinewoods on March 4th, 2017. Mucha, who trains with Pinewoods Club Owner and Tennis Professional Bob Cofer, won all three of his matches in the Round Robin Format to take the title. The eighth grader beat Southbury’s John Henry Brehmer 9-7, Darien’s John Khachian 8-5 and Avon’s Ryan Belval by withdrawal. Pinewoods conducts tournaments throughout the year.                  Litchfield High School Freshman Sabrina Cofer won her 5th Tennis Tournament of the year at the USTA Junior Championships held at Pinewoods Health and Racquet Club in Torrington, October 8th and 9th. Cofer, the #1 Seed, won the Girl’s 14 and Under Division with victories over Washington, CT’s Grace Tartwijk 6-1,6-1 in the semifinals and over Bristol, CT’s Natasha Kempes 6-4,6-2 in the finals. She is currently ranked #49 in New England in the Girl’s 14 and Under Division. Pinewoods has many Tournaments (Junior and Adult) throughout the Fall and Winter. The Fall/Winter indoor season starts up on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. We have some openings in our men’s and women’s doubles leagues, as well as a few desirable time slots open weekday mornings and prime time after hours for private season court time. Litchfield’s Sabrina Cofer was a big winner in the  CT. USTA Championships Tennis Tournament held at Pinewoods Health and Racquet Club on March 12.  Cofer teamed with Southport, CT’s Daria Efimov to beat Norwalk’ Kristen Butler and Westport’s Hannah Londoner in the finals 6-2,6-2 to win the Girl’s 14 and Under Doubles Division. In other action, Lakeville’s Jonathan Miller made it to the finals of the Boy’s 14 and Under Division with his partner Ron Abraham from Newington before falling to Darien’s Uday Avula and Benjamin Collier 6-4,6-4. Watertown’s Angelica Pecci had a great showing in the CT. USTA Championships Tennis Tournament held at Pinewoods Health and Racquet Club on 1/14 – 1/16. The 16 year old, who trains at Pinewoods with Director of Junior Player Development Mitch Case, reached the finals of the Girl’s 16 and Under Division. Pecci defeated Litchfield’s Sabrina Cofer 6-3,6-1 in the first round and Torrington’s Jessica Ruot in the semifinals 6-1,6-0 before falling to Stamford’s Anna Rogers 6-0,6-1 in the finals. In other action in one of the largest Tourneys ever at Pinewoods with 40 participants, Darien’s Devon Wolfe won the Boy’s 16 and Under Division with a 7-5,7-6(7-3) win in the finals over Damanscotta, Maine’s Jordan Friedland. Darien’s Benjamin Collier defeated Trumbull’s Nicholas Marchenko 7-5,6-2 in the finals to win the Boy’s 12 and Under Division and Woodbridge’s Victoria Li was victorous in the Girl’s 12 and Under Division besting Darien’s Devon Wolfe in the finals 6-1,6-3. Barkhamsted’s Ashlyn Ramsay was a big winner in the Winter USTA Junior Championships Tennis Tournament at Pinewoods Health and Racquet Club January 8th and 9th. The 17 year old won the Girl’s 18 & Under Division with a 6-1,3-6,6-2 victory over Wilton, CT’s Brooke Connelly in the finals. Ramsay, who trains at Pinewoods, is the #1 Player on the Northwestern Regional High School Tennis Team in the Spring. In other action, New Hartord’s Tyler Lemieux had a good Tourney in the Boy’s 18 & Under Division as he won his first round match 6-0,6-1 over Northfield’s Nick Guerrera and then had a close match in the semifinals with the #1 Seed, Wes Craft, falling 6-4,6-4. Craft lost in the finals 6-2,7-5 to Ridgefield, CT’s Jordan Kuchta 6-2,7-5. Pinewoods has many Tournaments coming up this Winter. Can you believe it?  Despite the massive amounts of snow, Pinewoods is open!  Bob and Enizete managed to open the club early this morning and are prepared for our members (apparently, this is a “dusting” by Vermont standards).  If you’re part of a Season Court, please contact the person in charge of your court before you leave for the club.
