Local Tennis Teaching Professionals Doug Madeux and Bob Cofer won their respective divisions in the USTA Adult  Championships Tennis Tournament  held at Pinewoods November 19th. Madeux, who teaches tennis at Pinewoods, won the Men’s Open Singles Division with victories over Longmeadow, MA’s Stefan Sjoberg 6-0,6-0 and Windsor’s Jason Hone 7-5,6-0 in the Round Robin Competition. The Harwinton Native is ranked in the Top 60 in New England in Men’s Open Singles. Cofer, the Pinewoods Club Owner, won the 4.5 Men’s Singles Division as he squeezed by Boca Raton, Florida’s George Kramer 6-4,7-6(7-3) and the took out Southport’s Michael Cahill 6-2,6-1 in another Round Robin.           Pinewoods Junior Tennis Players Holden Robinson from Harwinton and Sabrina Cofer from Litchfield were each victorous in their respective 14 and Under Singles Divisions in the USTA CT. Championships Tennis Tournament held at Pinewoods, November 5th and 6th. Robinson, a Freshman at Lewis Mills High School, won 3 matches in route to the title. In his first one he beat Westport’s Max Zimmerman 6-7(7-5),6-0,6-0. Then he won his semifinal match 6-3,6-1 over the #1 Seed, Madison’s Andrew Pace and in the finals he bested Williamstown’s Nyeinchan Soe 6-2,6-1. Cofer won her 6th Tourney of the year with a 6-0,6-0 victory over Norfolk’s Karin Vantine in the finals. Pinewoods has many Tournaments this Winter.
